Businesses encouraged to apply for a Dragon Award

Businesses throughout London are being encouraged to make an application for one of this year's Lord Mayor's Dragon Awards.

Recognising and celebrating community engagement in Greater London, eligible activities can include local purchasing, charity partnerships, employee volunteering and employability initiatives.

Applications are welcome from all businesses, public bodies and community organisations which are making a positive impact and engaging with communities in London. Previous winners have included universities and councils, as well as design agencies, banks, consultancies, law firms and construction companies.

Organisations are welcome to apply in the following categories:

  • Education Award
  • Economic Regeneration Award
  • Social Inclusion Award
  • Community Partners Award
  • Heart of the City Award (for new community programmes)
  • Lord Mayor's Award (for longstanding commitment)
Entries that reflect the positive community impact of local purchasing are particularly encouraged for the Economic Regeneration category.

The application process is simple, and all the information can be found on the Apply for an Award section of the Dragon Awards' website. In all categories there is the opportunity for a large and small organisation to be rewarded. In all cases the relative size and resources of an organisation are taken into account. The application deadline is 13 June 2011, and all applicants will receive a complimentary invitation to the celebratory dinner at The Mansion House on 20 September.

A workshop is being held on 17 May to find out more about the Awards and to provide tips on what makes a successful application. To register please click here.

To find out more about previous winners, take a look at the winners videos. Winners are presented with a coveted Dragon Statuette, and for most organisations it is the reputation of the Awards that is most valued.
