Action Sustainability Community Interest Company (ASCIC)

Founded in 2006, the Action Sustainability Community Interest Company Limited (ASCIC) is dedicated to advancing and sharing knowledge in sustainable procurement. Our mission is to inspire sustainable business practices by creating and disseminating best practices and innovative solutions. 

Where it all began

Initially funded by the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), ASCIC played a key role in promoting sustainable procurement through training and events.

As a self-financing social enterprise, ASCIC focuses on:

  • ISO20400.org: Managing a platform for global knowledge sharing and collaboration on sustainable procurement.
  • Community Engagement: Hosting webinars and building a network through social media.
  • Steering Group: Guiding our mission with input from international experts.

Governance and funding

ASCIC and Action Sustainability Trading Limited (ASTL) are sister organisations with shared Directors Shaun McCarthy OBE and Ian Heptonstall. ASCIC is funded mainly by ASTL, which donates 2.5% of its turnover. Additionally, ASTL’s consultancy team provides pro-bono support to ASCIC, further enhancing our ability to drive sustainable initiatives worldwide and make a lasting impact.

ISO20400.org is a not-for-profit platform designed for those interested in ISO 20400 and sustainable procurement. It offers:

  • Knowledge Sharing: Access to resources and best practices.
  • Self-Assessment: Tools for benchmarking and improving practices.
  • Expert Insights: Learning from global leaders in the field.

Governed by a Steering Group of ISO 20400 experts, our platform is supported by dedicated supporters and delivery partners.
