Cavendish Nuclear Strengthens Sustainability Expertise Through Targeted Training Analysis

Discover how Action Sustainability supported Cavendish Nuclear in identifying sustainability knowledge gaps through a training needs analysis. By providing targeted training recommendations, we helped upskill employees across the organisation, ensuring a tailored approach to sustainability learning that meets diverse roles and functions.

Cavendish Nuclear case study

The challenge

Cavendish Nuclear, part of the Babcock Group identified a need to develop the sustainability knowledge of its employees. However, as a large organisation it recognises that the training needs will differ from person to person and function to function within the business.

Action Sustainability were tasked with developing a ‘training needs analysis’ identifying where the key knowledge gaps within Cavendish were, and then suggested targeted training which could be used to upskill Cavendish employees in a targeted way.

Our approach

The project involved the following:

  • Identify key training priorities: We developed a sustainability knowledge gap analysis to identify priority areas for training in Cavendish
  • Establish a knowledge baseline:  We developed an online survey to develop a baseline of sustainability knowledge across Cavendish
  • Engage teams through workshops: We ran a series of 9 online workshops with Cavendish functions to understand sustainability knowledge, knowledge gaps and training needs
  • Gain leadership insights: We ran a series of interviews with senior members of the Cavendish team to identify their sustainability training knowledge and priorities

The findings from these activities were compiled into a summary report. This report identified training needs priorities for the business, and specific training resources to be used to upskill employees.

“We worked with Action Sustainability to create a bespoke methodology for the training needs assessment. This meant that the analysis was based on our own internal priorities and ensured the findings were relevant to us. The Action Sustainability team were very supportive and accommodating throughout the process and were a pleasure to work with.”

The Results & Impact

We had an excellent response from Cavendish employees with the survey and workshops. The result of this was a significant amount of data, and subsequently a lengthy report.

An executive summary and key findings were developed to ensure that the Cavendish team could make sense of the data as easily as possible.

The report will hopefully form a solid basis from which the Cavendish sustainability team can develop a meaningful training programme for all employees in the business.
