» TechnipFMC Advances Responsible Business Practices by Collaborating with Action Sustainability
Discover how Action Sustainability guides TechnipFMC in overcoming sector challenges and implementing sustainability strategies to meet client and investor demands.
TechnipFMC is the second largest oil and gas service company in the world, manufacturing and servicing products to support the global oil and gas sector.
They operate in over 80 countries and have primary manufacturing sites in the UK, Brazil, Singapore and the USA.
Director Shaun McCarthy OBE has been contracted as a sustainability advisor to this business since 2007 to present day.
The role includes guiding the business to overcome the existing negative image of the sector and to lead the implementation of cutting-edge sustainability strategies that satisfy an ever-decreasing demand from clients and investors for more responsible business practice.
Engaging with their global executive team, Action Sustainability ran a project from FMC Technologies’ head office in Houston, Texas, to develop the company’s first comprehensive environmental, social and economic procurement policy.
The implementation was supported with the development of e-learning content with contributions from TechnipFMC offices in the UK, USA, Singapore and Brazil. Workshops with the global Health Safety & Environment teams were also completed.
In the UK, Action Sustainability has supported the sustainability programme since 2007.
This has included achieving a zero waste to landfill target for several years, developing an innovative water recycling scheme for test ponds, and the successful implementation of a 2-megawatt wind turbine on site to deliver a third of the electricity consumption.
The strategy has extended to TechnipFMC’s key suppliers, including the directive of carbon saving projects and the reduction of unnecessary packaging.
To mitigate the carbon emissions of global travel, Action Sustainability initiated an independent charity, the ‘Greenshoots Foundation Trust’, which is funded by a levy on all flights taken by TechnipFMC staff.
Implemented in 2010, ‘Greenshoots’ has supported a number of carbon saving projects that also provide social benefits to their local communities in Scotland.
Examples of this are home energy saving schemes for people in fuel poverty and the installation of a water turbine to a charity in the highlands of Scotland.
Action Sustainability are recognised leaders in sustainability delivery and sustainable procurement.
