Founded in 2006, Action Sustainability Community Interest Company (ASCIC) began as a social enterprise, collaborating with DEFRA to advance the UK Government’s Sustainable Procurement Task Force. By 2009, we were key technical authors behind BS 8903, the world’s first standard for sustainable procurement practice, published in 2010.
In 2012, Action Sustainability Trading Ltd emerged with Ian Heptonstall, Shaun McCarthy, and Business Enterprise Group. We launched the Supply Chain Sustainability School, winning the CIPS Supply Management Awards 2013. Shaun McCarthy received an OBE for his sustainability efforts in the 2013 Birthday Honours List.
Our Directors took sole ownership in 2016, expanding the Supply Chain Sustainability School to a leading collaboration in the UK and Australia. We guided the development of ISO 20400 and introduced the Sustainability Tool in 2017, helping businesses understand their operational impact.
Adapting to Covid-19, we shifted to a virtual delivery model, thriving despite challenges. Demand surged for our consultancy services across various sectors, including health and manufacturing. Our Sustainability Tool saw a significant boost following major software and support investments.
In 2022, we earned a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development for the Supply Chain Sustainability School. By January 2024, we also launched a new platform in Ireland, supported by 15 Founding Partners, to drive sustainable practices in the Irish construction sector. In April 2024 the UK School had 40,000 members and 240 Partners driving our mission of a built environment industry where everyone has the skills and knowledge to deliver a sustainable future.
Our team is composed of skilled professionals who bring unique expertise and dedication to advancing our sustainability goals. Their diverse backgrounds and specialised knowledge empower us to address complex challenges and drive meaningful progress in all our initiatives.
